FutureEverything's roots are in new media art, and this is reflected in the peripheral events that will be part of the programme, including the highly acclaimed public art performance 'Speed of Light' by NVA; The Design Council's 'Weave Waves'; and also a unique multi-sensory performance from Throbbing Gristle's Carter Tutti at MediaCity UK.
This summit could not have come at a better time for me because I am about to launch a 'crowdfunding' campaign (a relatively new method of fundraising for creative projects). You may remember a recent blog post I wrote about 'Fundraising' in which I raised doubts about my ability to succeed in raising money this way. I have since decided to explore a Kickstarter campaign as an option. Crowdfunding is one of the issues that is on the agenda as part of the conference programme, and will be discussed in the presentation about online platforms and how they are transforming the creative and economic landscape. This will be very useful information and relevent to my particular concerns.
Some of the highlights of the conference for me will be:
1. The 'Platforms' panel which will include speakers such as Jeremy Boxer from Vimeo and Stephanie Pereira from Kickstarter.
2 .A presentation about 'Coding, Commenting and Crowdsourcing' that will discuss how innovative services are changing the way citizens interact with their city, and how they are creating a rewarding way for their citizens to participate.
3. 'Natalie Jeremijenko - Exploring Urban Ecologies', an artist who will present her recent work fronting the Environmental Health Clinic - a research and design initiative exploring the impact of the contemporary environment on our wellbeing. Her project looks at the city as an ecosystem where different forms of life, from human to animal and bacterial, coexist and impact on each other.
Then there's the fringe event 'Ideas are Theft' which asks 'what is the value of an idea?' This is an event scheduled for the evening and being Manchester, it's being held down the pub! The speakers will debate the existence of originality; how ideas are perpetuated; and what role idea ownership has in contemporary society. It originates from Flux Factory Death Match in New York.
There will be lots of ideas to explore in my time with FutureEverything. Can't wait!

This was indeed one great event. This conference seems to be very helpful to all inventors and thinkers. I'm sure there was an overflowing of ideas during this summit which can inspire every struggling inventor. Hope there will be lots of events such as this soon. Thanks!
